New Girl in Town - Gemba Marketing

New Girl in Town

It seems as though I have found my people.

For the past couple weeks, I’ve been surrounded by a group of Nerf gun-shooting warriors who are creative and smart and genuine and funny and all things good. They watch Game of Thrones; they play Settlers of Catan; they listen to Mumford & Sons and Adele. Basically, they’re high-quality people, and I’m the lucky son of a gun who gets to call them my coworkers.

Hi, I’m Shelby, and I’m the new copy writer here at Gemba.

If you’ve been looking for an experiential marketing tour guide, look no further – I’m your girl. I’ll share all sorts of valuable information on this blog. From marketing trends to consumer behavior, from cool events we attend to our team culture, from movie reviews to pictures of French bulldogs wearing sweater vests… I’ve got you covered, pal.

At Gemba, we pride ourselves on being an authentic, fully integrated agency. The creative concept, the fabrication, the event execution – we do it all under the same roof and, as someone who grew up in an advertising family, I think that’s pretty darn impressive.

Besides being an experiential wordsmith, I’m also a Minnesota native who loves fitness (apparel), my pancake-making skills are on point, and I once finished an entire box of Fruity Pebbles in one sitting. So, there’s that.

I have a son, too. His name is Bruce Wayne and he enjoys chasing squirrels, taking long naps, and licking faces. My son is a dog, in case you didn’t catch that. He’s a pitbull/boxer/bulldog type of thing, and he might be my best friend. I’m also married to a pilot. More specifically, a Coast Guard helicopter pilot named Erik. We lived in Pensacola for two years where he attended Naval Flight Training and I worked on my tan. Then we moved to Michigan in September and my skin has been the color of paste ever since.

I love it here, though. I really do. Lake Michigan is one of the most serene bodies of water I’ve ever seen and the camping opportunities here are endless. Plus, there are breweries and wineries everywhere. I’m beginning to think I died and went to heaven.

Long story short, I’m living in a beautiful town, I’m making new friends, and I’m writing for a company that embodies everything I could ever hope for in an employer – hard work, creativity, kindness, and mad ping pong skills.

Life is good, my friend. Life is very, very good.
